Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) operate by raising a small levy to pay for additional services to help boost the performance of participating businesses. This is usually a small percentage of Business Rateable Values, with the actual levy percentage varying depending on the area in question and the cost of the activities defined in the Business Plan. All BIDs are governed by legislation to ensure fairness and transparency.
We want everybody to share an ambitious vision for Bradford city centre. This BID has been designed to create a vibrant and prosperous city centre that attracts increased footfall from both local people and visitors from elsewhere, so that all our businesses flourish and prosper. Whether people live or work in Bradford or are simply visiting, our goal is that they are motivated to stay for longer, spend more and return more frequently.
The key BID projects have been drawn together as a result of the Feasibility Study and subsequent consultation which asked businesses to identify and prioritise the key areas they felt BID funding should be used to address. The delivery of the Business Plan overall is supported by the implementation of an interactive dashboard and reporting system to facilitate all aspects of the proposed BID projects which have been grouped into the following four Key Objectives:
The BID plan is to ensure that the City Centre is an attractive and welcoming place for those who live, work and visit. Importantly, we want to present the best possible appearance to potential investors. The Bradford BID therefore pledges to carry out activities that are completely above and beyond those already being provided by existing organisations.
The BID plan is to ensure that the City Centre feels a safe place to visit at any time, day or night. We will do more to improve safety standards and will also communicate the message that actual levels of crime are very low, reducing the unfounded perception that the City Centre is unsafe.
The BID plan is to ensure that the City Centre is a vibrant area and a place people can enjoy all year round. We intend to help build on the success of existing events and to introduce a programme of additional activities to further energise Bradford and to draw many more people to visit from the local area and even further afield.
The BID plan is to invest in much more promotion and marketing of the City Centre and to ensure that this is targeted at key catchments. We also propose to work with others to ensure that we jointly and consistently promote Bradford much more effectively to a local, regional and national audience.
There is a large team of people who support and work for the BID, some of whom are on the Operating Board and some of whom are in the BID office. All involved are working to ensure the BID objectives are met and that the levy paying businesses are fully supported. You can read about the team on our Who We Are page.
